This is something that I have used in the past. I may revise/ add to it. The LRC website also has a good search engine for collecting books.
OK. So, admittedly, I am thinking of this as an email. I don't know how to attach a document.
Should I save it to the S drive at school and add a link? Or, should I just send an email?
I am just going to cut and paste the text.
What’s Cool? (Really Really Good? Hip? Realistic? Hilarious? Intriguing? Interesting? Mysterious? Exciting? Compelling? Dramatic? Romantic? Action-Packed? Fun?):
A Reading Wish-List Assignment
Objective: To find books that you are excited about reading.
Assignment: Find a minimum of three books that you really, really want to read. Create an annotated bibliography of the books in which you include:
Title
Author
A brief summary/ discussion of the topic (5-7 sentences)
A valid reason for wanting to read it
RESOURCE ONE: PEOPLE
A great way to find great books is by asking family members, teachers, friends and fellow readers what they really love, or think that you will love. Start by asking five people for recommendations. (Take notes on the back of this handout.)
RESOURCE TWO: THE INTERNET
Lists of Book Reviews and Recommendations:
Online resources to help you find a book that you will love.
Conant High School has an extensive list of recommended young-adult fiction:

ALA Booklist (a tool for searching book reviews)

Random House Reading Group Guides

The mega-bookstores will do quite a bit to point out books you may like. If you go to a book that you do like, the “little man in the computer” will suggest books to you based on what others who purchased the book chose to purchase.

RESOURCE THREE: THE LIBRARY
Look at the books in the fiction section. Read the back cover of books that look interesting. Make friends with and ask questions of the librarians (or your teacher). They are some of your best resources!
